Advanced training in the manufacture of wooden toys

Training Plan (2 days)

Objectives of the training:

Gain autonomy and confidence.

To improve your skills in the design of wooden toys.

Use the scroll saw and its multiple wood cutting possibilities with confidence and mastery.

Know and use:

The various stationary machines, power tools and hand tools that make toys.

Concerning the discovery part of the techniques:

The training is structured around theoretical explanations and immediate practical application in the form of concrete achievements. The trainees will choose objects to be made that will serve as a support for the practice.

Choosing the species of wood to be used,

Know and know how to implement finishes adapted to toy standards,

Workplace safety will be addressed at every stage.

Several models will be offered to participants.

The choice depends on the trainee's ability to progress.

As the number of trainees is limited to two, the programme offered can be "tailor-made" according to the trainees' expectations.

Example of achievement:

A 3D puzzle (cut from thick solid wood).

A Secret Box (box with a secret key).

Personal project of the intern (if achievable in 2 days).

Teaching methods

Continuous presence of the trainer guaranteeing the progress of the work on the machine in complete safety.

Availability of the trainer for any technical questions of the trainees.

Theoretical explanations and practical application.

Means of evaluation

Verification of the correct completion of tasks at each stage by the trainer.

Ensure the good practices and good gestures of the trainees.

Self-evaluation at the end of the internship.

This internship is aimed at any motivated adult, anyone in a situation of reflection, professional retraining and who plans to move towards this sector of activity.

Animator, educator of an association who wants to create wood workshops.

Passionate about woodworking who want to diversify their practices.

Prerequisite

This course is aimed at people who have participated in the introductory training in the manufacture of wooden toys or who have already been introduced to woodworking.

Program:

Day 1:

Presentation of each trainee, their project and the course of the training.

Exchange on safety in the workshop and on the machines.

Exchange on the CE standards to be respected.

Resumption of basic gestures on the scroll saw.

How to give a look of volume.

Cutting out a first name.

Basics of making a puzzle.

Choice of model.

Presentation of the template on the wooden board and its tracing.

Cutting out the puzzle.

2nd day:

Choice of a model of pull toy.

Creation of templates.

Choice of wood.

Cutting of each model.

Sanding of models and breaking of corners.

Gluing the different parts of the toy.

Discussion on the possible finishes to be made.

Self-evaluation of the training and final assessment in a group.

2 days of 7h30 of training (8:30am-12pm / 1:30pm-5:30pm) – 15 hours.

Rate per trainee:

Net training rate: 700€ per trainee/day or 1,400 for 2 days.

Preferential net training rate for individuals: €390* / Day or €780 net for 2 days.
